Memorial rose garden 2002—ongoing |

|
Past President Pat Bottle had a wish to develop a memorial rose garden at the George Town cemetery for some years and 2002 was the year it came together in a project that would extend over two rotary years. Design work was carried out by an architect and the George Town Council. Arrangements were then made with Mission Employment and the George Town Council for two “Work for the Dole “ employees to work two days per week on the project over much of the 2003 calendar year. The project supervision was carried out on those 16 hours a week by Past Presidents Pat Bottle and John Watts. The Club is very grateful for the dedication by all, and in particular the various people supplied through Mission Employment, who became extremely enthusiastic about the project. Significant contributions were made by the George Town Council, Broxburn Contracts and other organisations. Several working bees involved many members of the club and Honorary Member the late Ruth Ervin assisted with morning teas. The initial budget of $6000 will be marginally exceeded, but the project leaves a long term public relations focus for Rotary in the community. |
