About Us

The Rotary Club of George Town, formed in 1956, is the sixth oldest of the forty eight clubs in District 9830—Tasmania.  It was the first club formed outside the major metropolitan areas.  The concept of a Club at George Town was formulated by the young manager of the Launceston Bank for Savings, Neil Robson, who was not even a Rotarian at the time.  The Launceston Rotary Club and Neil worked to obtain a charter and the Charter Meeting was held on 1st November 1956.
